LKR

With over 25 years of experience in research and innovation for lightweight applications of the future, LKR Light Metals Technologies (LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen), part of the Austrian Institute of Technology, is a leader in the development of high-quality light metal alloys, their sustainable processing, and the development of functionally integrated lightweight components.

LKR’s comprehensive research approach, bolstered by state-of-the-art simulation methods, has paved the way for new technologies such as wire-based additive manufacturing of aluminum and magnesium, alongside innovative casting and forming processes. Leveraging these cutting-edge methods and expertise across the entire processing chain, the lightweight components designed by LKR find widespread application in the automotive and aerospace industries.
LKR is characterized by an excellent team of scientists, the highest level of methodological expertise, and many years of experience in managing international research projects.

Within COMPASS, LKR is responsible for identifying remanufacturing process requirements, collecting data needs, and developing a sheet metal reforming calculator. LKR will conduct multi-step processing of sheet metal feedstock, investigate logistics, integrate tools, and analyze reformed product characteristics. Additionally, LKR quantitatively assesses waste streams and economic impacts.
