Factsheet #3: Composite Part Remanufacturing
The third factsheet from COMPASS is dedicated to Composite Part Remanufacturing, presenting an end-to-end workflow that transforms defective composite parts into valuable, reusable resources.
The process starts with part design, feeding into a lay-up process that generates CAD data for manufacturing. Once manufactured, parts undergo a QA inspection, producing a structured report that feeds both the Digital Product Passport (DPP) and the remanufacturing workflow.
In parallel, defined requirements are combined with QA reports in the Remanufacturing process planner, which generates new CAD data. This feeds into the part design and remanufacturing process, ultimately producing a remanufactured part — closing the loop from defect to reuse.
Throughout the entire process, data packages are continuously exchanged with the DPP, capturing critical information such as material treatment, deep drawing skills, load-over-lifespan data, surface/coating specifications, and non-proprietary geometry data — ensuring full traceability from design to remanufactured part.
This workflow targets applications in the aerospace and automotive/industrial sectors, supporting a more circular and resource-efficient manufacturing ecosystem.
