Factsheet #2: Sheet Metal Remanufacturing
The second factsheet from COMPASS is dedicated to Sheet Metal Remanufacturing, showcasing how digital technologies and circular manufacturing strategies can extend the value of metal components throughout their lifecycle.
The factsheet presents the COMPASS approach for managing different types of feedstock—including blanking scrap, stamping scrap, end-of-life components, and aircraft dismantling materials—through an integrated digital ecosystem based on Digital Product Passports (DPPs), traceability, and advanced remanufacturing processes.
Several Key Exploitable Results (KERs) are featured, including:
- – DPP-enabled qualified scrap reuse for sheet metal manufacturing;
- – An industry-focused traceability platform supporting data exchange across the value chain;
- – A reuse-oriented remanufacturing process planner;
- – A knowledge layer enabling practical implementation of Digital Product Passports;
- Additional digital solutions supporting aircraft dismantling, material characterization and guided disassembly.
By connecting data, manufacturing processes and product information, COMPASS enables manufacturers to recover valuable materials, improve process efficiency and reduce waste. The proposed framework supports multiple stakeholders, from production and quality assurance teams to scrap suppliers, OEMs, engineering companies and characterization service providers.
This new factsheet provides a concise overview of the COMPASS vision for a more digital, traceable and circular sheet metal manufacturing ecosystem, highlighting the project’s contribution to the transition towards sustainable industrial production.
