COMPASS General Assembly: Charting the Course for the Final Stretch in Enschede | 19–20 May 2026
There is something energising about gathering the whole consortium in one place, and the M30 General Assembly held on 19–20 May 2026 in Enschede, The Netherlands, was no exception. Hosted by partner AELS at the People@places Enschede Technology Base, the meeting brought together the full COMPASS consortium for two intensive and productive days, marking a pivotal milestone as the project enters its final phase (months 30–36).
Taking Stock at the Halfway Point
The assembly opened with a comprehensive review of project management, budget, and progress across all work streams, a necessary checkpoint as the consortium moves into the home straight. With Month 30 now reached, the teams presented the current state of each of the three core use cases:
- Composite part remanufacturing: an overview of work completed to date, open issues, and planned activities up to M36.
- Metal sheet part remanufacturing: a review of technical progress, with a focus on remaining challenges and next steps.
- Dismantling processes and MRO: an update on the status of maintenance, repair, and overhaul-related activities.
The session on the Digital Product Passport, rounded off the morning, highlighting progress in capturing real-time component history and performance data to enable smarter remanufacturing decisions.
Looking Forward: Exploitation, Demonstration, and the Road to M36
A significant portion of Day 1 was dedicated to the exploitation strategy, with the topic introduced during the dissemination session and further developed through a dedicated exploitation workshop involving the entire consortium in the afternoon.
Day 2 shifted the focus squarely to planning. Profactor led a structured review of the project plan for months 30–36, covering work packages, deliverables, milestones, and the upcoming periodic report. Partners then discussed the final demonstration at M36 and the review meeting — a key moment for the whole consortium — followed by a session on dissemination priorities for the last six months.
The official programme closed with a collaborative session to define TODO items and next meetings, before an informal lunch and time for bilateral discussions — always a valuable opportunity for one-on-one exchanges that keep collaboration flowing.
A Highlight: The AELS Facility Tour
One of the most appreciated moments of Day 1 was the guided tour of the AELS facilities, offering partners a first-hand look at the partner’s capabilities in aerospace maintenance, repair, and dismantling — a perfect complement to the technical discussions of the day.
Heading Towards the Finish Line Together
A heartfelt thank you goes to AELS for their warm hospitality and for opening their doors at the Enschede Technology Base. Special appreciation to all partners for the quality of their contributions, the openness of the debate, and the collaborative spirit that continues to define this consortium.
The work ahead is intense… but the direction is clear, and the commitment is strong.
The COMPASS consortium is ready for its final push.
